LAKE ISABELLA FISHING DERBY

LAKE ISABELLA, Calif., April 10, 2006–Less than two hours before the Monday 6pm deadline, a Bakersfield man walked into Lake Isabella Fishing Derby Headquarters with a trout bearing tag number 800, one of two trout in the Derby, worth $10,000.00.

According to Joseph Pacheco IV, who works as a warehouseman for U.S. Cold Storage in Bakersfield, he caught the trout at Kissack Cove on the south side of the lake.

This was the 17th year for the Isabella Lake Fishing Derby, and the second time that Mr. Ten Grand, as he is called, has been caught during the derby. The remaining big money fish, with tag number 115, is still swimming in Isabella Lake somewhere, and is now worth $1,000.00 until May 10th 2006. After May 10th the value will drop to $100.00 until next years Fishing Derby.

The 2006 Isabella Lake Fishing Derby, one of the largest fishing derby’s in the state, set a record for number of tagged trout caught the first day (Saturday) at 173 for a first day payout of $8,770.00.

While Monday’s numbers have yet to be tallied, Pacheco’s catch of the $10,000.00 trout will easily set a new record payout for the derby, in excess of $25,000.00.

According to the Isabella Lake Derby website there were 3,906 participants registered to fish in this years derby.
