Whitewater Media Event

The Kern River Valley Community is sponsoring an event exclusively for media professionals. The event will take place at Riverside Park in Kernville at 9:00am and will include a morning whitewater raft trip, BBQ lunch, speakers, and afternoon activities such as climbing, fly fishing, lake kayaking, taking a nature walk and bird watching at the Kern River Preserve, and a guided tour of the Historical Kern Valley Museum. ALL THIS AT NO CHARGE TO YOU!

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Olympians, ERIC AND REBECCA GIDDENS, talk about why they
made their home in the Kern River Valley..
In addition to being the 2004 Olympic
Silver Medalist and 2002 World Champion in women's slalom
kayak, Rebecca also competed in the 2000 Olympic Games and is a multiple
World Cup Gold Medalist. Eric is 12 year veteran of the US Slalom Team,
a World Cup Medalist, and a multi-purpose Olympian, competing as an
athlete in the 1996 Games in Atlanta and coaching both the 2000 and
2004 Olympic Whitewater Slalom Teams.
PRELIMINARY ITINERARY
May 16, 2006
- 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. Welcome and Continental Breakfast
- 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Safety Talk and Outfitting
- 10:00 – 12:00 p.m. – Rafting
- 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. – BBQ Lunch & Keynote Speakers
- 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. - Whitewater Rafting or Additional Activities*
*Additional activities will be offered through local outfitters and may include:
- Birding /Nature Walk at the Kern River Preserve
- Climbing Wall – recommend non-confining clothing

Fly fishing / Fish Hatchery Tour – fishing equipment provided

Lake Kayaking – recommend water resistant clothing
All sports equipment for planned activities will be provided by the local outfitters.
Recommended attire and supplies: Sunscreen, hat, comfortable shoes, dry change of clothes, beach towel, eyeglass retainers (if you wear glasses).
You may want to bring some form of water shoe or bootie (flip-flops without heel straps are not permitted on rafts) and any other water repelling clothing you may have for whitewater rafting. Jeans are not recommended for rafting, kayaking, or mountain climbing.
